The Avanti TeamOur consulting group, the Avanti® Division of Patient Flow Services, features the most experienced team of nurses and nurse executives in the industry. Donna Butz, RN, MS, has 32 years of clinical nursing and healthcare leadership experience to bring to the Avanti® Patient Flow Consulting Team. Donna most recently held the position of Transfer Center Coordinator where she facilitated the transfer of acutely ill patients for a Level 1 Trauma Center. Additionally, she was responsible for triage and placement of all adult and pediatric critical care patients within a three hospital system. Prior positions include Director of Nursing of a 680 bed long term care facility with two sites that required consolidation of nursing services, policies, and procedures. Donna also served as a Director of Clinical Services, and Vice President Patient Care Services at two acute care facilities responsible for all aspects of patient care services including the development of a cardiothoracic service line. She has also been a member of an executive steering team that led her organization through a merger with a tertiary care facility. Her clinical experience is in the areas of Med/Surg, Step Down Telemetry, OR nursing, OR management and has been a Legal Nurse Consultant (with an OR emphasis). Gary D. Shaw, RN, was clinical manager of bed management at 900-bed Washington Hospital Center, District of Columbia, before joining TeleTracking. He provided innovative leadership in patient throughput initiatives at the Washington Hospital Center, where he also implemented standardized objective measurements for accountability across departmental service lines. Earlier in his career, he was clinical administrator at the 700-bed VCU Medical Center, a Level One trauma center in Richmond, VA. Russell R. Rooms, MSN, CNS, FNP-BC, is a master’s prepared Emergency Clinical Nurse Specialist and Emergency Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in emergency care and hospital administration. Most recently he served as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Emergency and Access Services for a tertiary academic medical center. In this role he provided oversight for a level one adult and pediatric trauma center, pediatric, and community emergency departments, communications, aero medical transport service, supplemental staffing and the patient logistics center which houses the transfer center, bed management, and transport/housekeeping dispatch. Skilled in Lean Six-Sigma and Studer principles, Russell specializes in coaching leaders in process and leadership change to increase the quality and efficiency of care. Russell is also responsible for designing and implementing Forensic Nursing Services for a seven hospital system in south Texas. Lisa B. Grant, RN, MHA was the Director for Patient Logistics for a tertiary academic Level I Trauma Center in Chattanooga Tennessee which included Central Bed Control, Transfer Center, House Supervisors, and staffing. She is a graduate of a diploma nursing program and continued her education with a bachelor and masteršs in Health Services Administration. Her earlier clinical background includes critical care and emergency room nursing also served as the Clinical Director for two satellite facilities within the same health system. Darla Jean Bondourant, RN, BSN, MSN, spent over a decade as a Nursing Administrator at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) before joining TeleTracking. While at UPMC, she specialized in organizing, coordinating and managing patient placement, hospital workflow and hospital resource allocation. She became proficient in the use of TeleTracking solutions for management needs and served as an educational resource internally and for visiting hospital personnel interested in automating patient flow. Prior to earning a nursing degree from Gannon University in 1991, she was a Nursing Technician at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, then a Patient Care Technician and a GN at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA before joining UPMC in 1991 at the health system¹s Shadyside Hospital. While in Erie, she worked in intensive care units, ED independent studies, post-surgical and home care settings, providing care to adults, adolescence, and geriatrics with problems that included trauma, burns, orthopedic issues to psychiatric and neurosurgical issues. She became a Unit Director in 1999 and an Administrative Nursing Coordinator in 2002. Jamie Karns, RN, MSN/MPH, CNS, brings many years of experience both clinically and administratively to the Avanti Consulting Team. Her nursing experience includes Emergency Nursing, Medical/Surgical, ICU, Cath Lab, post-partum, and long-term care. Her background includes Director of Nursing for a sub-acute unit at a hospital in Laguna Beach, California. Jamie has been a nursing supervisor, managing employees including RN's, CNA's, Social Worker, MDS Coordinators, and physicians. She has background in developing policies to stay in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements, and saved her hospital hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on revising the staffing matrix. Jamie also has background as an instructor. She taught at a licensed vocational nursing school and provided advanced cardiac life support instruction. Most recently, Jamie held the position of Vice President Clinical Services at a software company. In her role there as an informatics nurse, she managed the workflow analysis, training, and support teams to incorporate software with Real-time Locating Systems (RTLS) to improve patient flow. Gary D. Shaw, RN, BSN, MCM joined the Avanti team in 2010. While the Clinical Manager of Bed Management at 900-bed Washington Hospital Center, District of Columbia, he provided innovative leadership in patient throughput initiatives at the Washington Hospital Center by implementing and standardizing objective measurements for accountability across departmental service lines. Gary also brings a sound clinical nursing background with over 20 years of combined experience in the areas of Emergency, ICU, Telemetry, and Step Down hospital nursing units. In addition, he was the Clinical Administrator at the 700-bed VCU Medical Center, a Level One trauma center in Richmond, VA. The creative solutions, interesting analysis and perspectives he has brought to various hospitals throughout the United States was, in part, developed through his roots in the culturally rich and diverse region of south Louisiana where he was an accomplished musician, composer, conductor and music producer. |
