About the Presenter

Melanie Morris

Ms. Morris has more than three decades of EMT/Paramedic, ED, ICU, Rotor Wing Flight Nursing and Hospital Administration experience; including 12 years as a staff nurse with VA-1 DMAT and 15 years as a volunteer K9 handler with VDEM SAR teams. Ms. Morris helped build the first operational command center in 2004 at Carilion Clinic, and most recently was instrumental in the relocation and expansion of their center which is now 4,000 sq. ft. and includes EVS, Patient Transport, Patient Placement, Transfer Center Clinicians, Air & Ground Dispatch. For the last nine years, Ms. Morris has managed Carilion Clinic’s transfer and communications center, and has been the interim Emergency Manager for the past year.
